New Patient Exam Process

Please read in entirety.

Welcome to Dr. Autoimmune! We are so glad you are here. This information will be your guide so you will know exactly what to expect from your new patient experience with us.

Forms for All Patients

You must complete all forms via the Patient Portal 48 hours prior to your appointment. If forms aren’t completed, we will need to reschedule your appointment.

To complete your forms:

  • Find the email we sent when you made your appointment. It may be in your spam folder. Click the link in the email to be directed to the Patient Portal. Create a username and password within 48 hours of receiving the email. The link will expire within 48 hours of being sent. We can send you a new invitation if the first one expires.
  • Alternatively, if your link expires, you can go to https://redtailhealthpatient.md-hq.com/ and create your username and password.
  • Once in the Patient Portal, select the icon to the right-hand side labeled “Questionnaires.” Once you click on Questionnaires, select the section specific to you (Metabolic, Structural, etc) to expand that section. Please fill out ALL forms under the section title. If you can’t complete a form in one sitting, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Save so you don’t lose your work.
  • There is also an option to upload any “Labs & Documents” from the past 3 months that you feel would be helpful for us to have on file.

New Patient Exam for All Patients

Our neuro-metabolic exam is a comprehensive nervous system exam and a full physical exam looking into areas that could be impacting your health.

  • Confirm your new patient paperwork is filled out prior to your appointment.
  • Wear/bring shorts and short sleeves or loose clothing so that Dr. Ian can access your knees and arms.
  • Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled exam.
  • Cancellations need to be made 48 hours beforehand.

Brain Map for Metabolic/Autoimmune Patients

The brain map must be scheduled in the morning prior to noon. We will do our best to schedule your brain map in conjunction with your new patient exam.

  • You will get gel in your hair during the appointment (plan accordingly).
  • For best results, please refrain from consuming caffeine the morning of your brain map.
  • Our patients have more accurate brain maps when they wait to take their psychoactive medications until after their brain map. If you have any concerns about these requests please send a message to Dr. Ian in the portal.
  • Dr. Ian will go over your brain map with you and answer any questions at the Report of Findings.

A Brain Map is a form of qEEG scan that measures the different brainwave frequencies. How these brain waves are acting in different lobes of the brain gives us a great deal of information about your neurological health. An analysis of your brain map will be performed to calculate which areas need the most improvement. Based on the level of unbalanced brainwaves, a protocol is developed to train your brain to adopt a healthier brainwave distribution.

Blood Draw (if applicable)

Dr. Ian will order blood labs after the first exam. Please complete the bloodwork as soon as possible. Comprehensive blood work is required for your Report of Findings (not applicable for structural patients.)

Once you complete your labs, call the front desk to schedule a Report of Findings appointment 5-7 days out in order to allow time for us to receive your results. As soon as results are obtained you will be notified.

Report of Findings for All Patients

The report of findings is a separate 60 minute appointment for metabolic/autoimmune patients. For structural patients, the report of findings appointment AND your exam are all inclusive in a 45 minute appointment. This appointment is included in the new patient exam fee regardless of what kind of appointment you are seeing Dr. Ian for.

  • Dr. Ian requires that you bring your spouse, significant other, and/or BOTH parents to the report of findings appointment. Dr. Ian only works with clients that are highly motivated to change their health concerns, and having the emotional and/or financial support of your loved one is an important part of this healing journey. Dr. Ian covers detailed information about your brain map and blood work results, and what care will look like for you. This saves you the concern of having to relay complicated information about your specific results and care to a loved one at a later date.
  • Dr. Ian will first determine if you qualify for care, and if applicable, present your customized care plan, expectations and financial options.
  • Parties are welcome to join remotely. Your appointment will be rescheduled if all parties are not present.

Ian really knows A LOT about thyroid problems! His knowledge and confidence convinced me to make the lifestyle changes -including no gluten, no sugar, and more exercise-that are essential to healing hormonal imbalances and to staying well. Several months later, I feel stronger, more energetic, and am happier than I have felt in a long time. Many thanks for all your help!
